Make Your Life Easier--And Save Your Company 10B$

Finally, someone at Ford Motor Company cracked open a new set of eyes and discovered a key to move the company into the black. You can apply their lesson to your working life and save your company Billions.

Bryan Pope over at Ward's Auto World recently reported that the new Ford headman is stressing simplicity. It turns out that Ford has almost 20 different vehicle frames or "platforms." Alan Mulally, current Ford president and CEO, now plans to build vehicles on just 10 platforms. Ford offers eight different six-cylinder motors, and they plan to reduce that to two. Just for fun, and because they haven't been actively working to keep-it-simple, Ford offers 10 different four-cylinder motors. This will be reduced down to three.

What are you and your company doing and doing and doing? Do you personally have a cell phone, a work phone a car phone, a home phone, a mobile text and media package, plus work and home e-mail? Does your company track a dozen suppliers, but buy 90% of its supplies from two? How many e-mail accounts do you have? How many phone numbers? How many rules? How many layers of management? Do you write checks, use a debit card, carry several charge cards and have a stack of gas cards "just in case?" Where can you simplify? What can you do without? What is all the extra stuff crowding out that you shoulda-coulda-woulda done? In other words, are you carrying two backup guns and no cell phone? Well STOP IT!

Simple is Good!

Keep it simple. Make is simple. Be creative and find ways to make-your-working-life-work. Look for way to do it with less effort and more joy. It's possible. If Ford can do it (finally), the chances are we can too.

Get 'er Done Tip

Too much to do? Ever have so much paperwork to do that you felt like there was no way to even get started?

Try this tip: Get started by sorting all those papers into piles. Put all "like" items together. Then do all the report filing and finish off one entire stack. Then, move on to the next stack, say, meeting minutes you need to read. Polish those off, and move on to the next stack.

I like to use this method to get caught up because I can sort pretty quickly, and that feel great! Then I can accomplish a lot in short 20-minute work periods.

Make More Tips for Wait Staff

Do you work as a professional waiter or waitress? I've got a booklet coming soon with 52 tips on earning more tips!

Make More Tips, Tip # 1--Always give your customer the biggest donut. Why not? Someone is going to get the biggest donut, the best looking salad, the freshest rolls--it might as well be your customer! If you are up for a little shameless self promotion, go ahead and whisper, "These just came out of the oven, and I made sure I got some just for you."

Make More Tips, Tip # 20--Set people's food down like it was a treasure. Slinging food is a guaranteed no-tip, and could even get you reported to the manager.

Make More Tips, Tip # 28--Retire from the BMW club. For those of you who didn't guess this one already, that's the Bitch, Moan and Whine club. Unless you are using it as a schtick, never whine to customers. They are not going to pay you extra to listen to your problems.

Make More Tips, Tip # 51--Keep a song in your heart, and a smile on your face. It's true that a smile will almost certainly help you earn more tips, but it can also make you more attractive, more peaceful and more fulfilled.

The booklet will have FIVE sections on earning more tips, a sprinkling of original cartoons and bonus features you want want to miss. If you are a restaurant owner, trainer or manager, I'll even show you how to use this booklet to provide a years worth of weekly training at an incredible price.
